NDAA Update: Trump is trying to merge the U.S. military with Israel’s

By Ahmad Abuznaid, USCPR Action’s Executive Director

Earlier this month, the Pentagon raised its counterintelligence threat level for Israel to "critical."  It assessed that Israel has been spying on U.S. officials to get sensitive information from the Trump administration. (1)

What are our politicians doing about this major security threat? Well, Congress is moving to give Israel even greater access to spy on us, by permanently fusing the militaries together. The House is expected to vote on it before the end of this month.

What is the NDAA Act?

This dangerous proposal is buried inside the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). It would integrate U.S. and Israeli weapons research, production, technology, and military operations, and shield it all from future congressional oversight. (2)

This proposal would arguably be worth more to Israel than the billions in weapons the U.S. has already sent.

Think about all the ways the U.S. has endlessly armed Israel with bombs, bulldozers, and bullets used to commit genocide against the Palestinian people and launch a wider war on Iran and Lebanon. Then imagine something even worse—a deadly relationship that would further bolster the genocidal Israeli state.

That’s what this proposal is, packaged inside the $1.5 trillion military spending bill Congress is trying to pass this summer. Meanwhile hardworking American taxpayers can't afford gas and groceries.

The same politicians who want to spend big bucks on war claim that there's nothing left for housing, healthcare, food, or schools.

The truth is that we have more than enough resources to care for all people. Our tax dollars should fund care for our communities—not a $1.5 trillion military budget that Congress never seems to have trouble finding money for. That’s why we’re also demanding Congress vote in favor of the Slash the Pentagon Act, legislation introduced by Senator Ed Markey to reduce the enormous military budget.

We already know that the majority of Americans want to stop arming Israel. And a lot of Republicans are going up against serious pro-Palestine challengers on Election Day in November. So they're moving to lock in this dangerous deal now, before they lose the chance to.

Make sure your members of Congress hear from you before the vote. Use our call tool to tell them: Stop fueling forever wars and end all forms of U.S. complicity in Israel's massive violence.
