Zohran Mamdani’s historic win reflects popular support for Palestinian rights
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC, November 4, 2025—In a historic victory, Zohran Mamdani has won the New York City mayoral election by a wide margin, proving the growing popularity of his progressive policies.
Mamdani was the first ever political candidate to be endorsed by the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights Action (USCPR Action), one of the largest Palestine advocacy organizations in the U.S., and his win signals a major shift in the U.S. political landscape.
USCPR Action Executive Director Ahmad Abuznaid says: “Zohran’s historic win in the largest city in the U.S. proves that the people support Palestinian rights. They’re fed up with establishment politicians who arm Israel by the billions while Americans can’t afford groceries. They want their tax dollars to fund care for their communities, like food, housing, and healthcare—not sent to a foreign apartheid state to fuel endless war and genocide.”
20% of New York City residents receive SNAP food assistance, which they abruptly lost access to on Nov. 1, 2025 due to the government shutdown (1).
USCPR Action has been proud to endorse Zohran Mamdani, especially given his progressive policies to make life in New York City more affordable, his support for an arms embargo on Israel, his vow to divest from Israel bonds, and his long-time advocacy for Palestinian rights (2).
The facts are clear: 75% of Democratic voters want to stop arming Israel with their tax dollars, a recent Quinnipiac University national poll revealed.
In fact, 62% of Mamdani mayoral primary voters said his support for Palestinian rights was a factor in their vote—the third most motivating reason cited in a Data for Progress poll.
“The people of New York City have spoken, and they support candidates who put their tax dollars to good use to fund care, not killing,” Abuznaid said. “Zohran has remained uncompromised by the influence of the Israel lobby, placing the Democratic establishment on notice. Any serious candidate must refuse to take AIPAC money, which is essentially a bribe to arm Israel instead of funding constituent needs.”
About USCPR Action
The US Campaign for Palestinian Rights Action (USCPR Action) is a diverse movement of Palestinians and their allies who advocate for Palestinian rights and a transformation of U.S. policy on Palestine. That means ending U.S. military funding to apartheid Israel, once and for all, and advocating for justice and freedom for all people. USCPR Action is a project of Tides Advocacy, a 501(c)(4) organization. This partnership allows USCPR Action to expand its advocacy and political work, by advocating for legislation, endorsing political candidates, holding elected officials accountable, and building power across movements. USCPR Action will work to advance Palestinian rights as a non-negotiable part of the progressive agenda in the U.S., and build unprecedented support for Palestinian rights in Congress.
